What is a butt hinge?

What are the different types of butt hinges?

Standard hinges: The most common type, used primarily for doors in residential, commercial buildings and a variety of properties.
Ball-Bearing Butt Hinge: Designed for heavier and wider doors, these durable hinges provide smooth operation.

How many butt hinges does a door need?

The number of hinges required generally depends on the size of the door. In general:

One butt hinge is required for every 30 inches of door height

If the door is between 37 inches and 120 inches wide, adding an extra butt hinge can provide extra strength to support the weight.
